Why childhood apraxia
It is one of the most misunderstood disorders we see.
As speech-language pathologists, we do not get enough practice assessing, diagnosing, and treating childhood apraxia of speech, because only one in a thousand children have the disorder. What ends up happening is kids sit in the wrong treatment for years while everyone works hard and nothing moves.
Getting the diagnosis right is not academic. It changes the targets, the cueing, the intensity, and the family's entire sense of what is possible. That is why I keep teaching it, and why I still keep a caseload.

Part One
Assessment and Diagnosis
3 hours
CAS is one of the most over-diagnosed and under-diagnosed conditions we deal with, often in the same building. We work through what actually separates apraxia from a severe phonological disorder, how to run a dynamic assessment that gives you real information, and how to write a diagnosis you can defend to a parent, a team, and an insurance company.

- Identify the characteristics of CAS that separate the diagnosis from other speech sound disorders
- Describe the differential diagnostic criteria for CAS and demonstrate informal assessment procedures

Treatment
3 hours
Knowing it is apraxia is the easy part. This half is about what you do on Monday morning. Target selection, building and fading a cueing hierarchy, why intensity matters more in CAS than almost anywhere else on your caseload, and how to hold a plan together when a kid plateaus for six weeks.

I work in person with a small number of families in Parker, Colorado. It is only me, so the caseload stays small on purpose.
I am not taking new clients at the moment. The waitlist is open, and I will reach out when a spot comes free. I would rather tell you that plainly than let you wonder.

Regular sessions with me, in person. Built on the principles of motor learning, with a plan you can actually see and data that tells us whether it is working rather than whether we feel good about it.
Second opinion consult
One appointment for families already in therapy. I look at what has been done, tell you honestly what I see, and hand you and your current SLP something concrete to work from. You do not have to leave your provider to do this.
Parent coaching
The hours that matter most happen at home, not in my room. I teach you how to cue, when to push, when to let it go, and how to tell the difference.
I am not offering full evaluations right now. If what you need is a diagnostic assessment, tell me anyway and I will point you toward someone in Colorado who can do it properly.

Hi, I'm Jennie.
I ran a brick and mortar private practice for twenty-one years, and for much of that time I kept a full caseload of children with apraxia. Lots of kids, lots of practice, lots of learning. When only one in a thousand children has the disorder, that kind of volume is hard to come by, and it is where everything I teach now comes from.
Childhood apraxia of speech became my focus because it is where the cost of getting it wrong is highest. A child in the wrong treatment does not just stand still. They lose years, and their family loses faith that anything will help.
In 2017 I decided to make a physical product. I put the first batch on a credit card, which felt reckless at the time and still does when I say it out loud. They sold.
From there I grew an Instagram audience doing the only thing I knew how to do, which was talking about apraxia as a therapist who was in it every day, and using the tool I had built to solve my own problem. The trust came first and the following came after. Bjorem Speech Publications now carries more than 100 products and has sold into more than 60 countries. What a ride.
I ran that practice in Kansas City, and in 2020 I moved it to Colorado, to a small town outside Denver that happened to be about twenty minutes from a family who badly needed someone who does what I do. Their son had childhood apraxia of speech, and the pathologist who diagnosed him told them the person to call had just moved to Colorado. That family was Garett and Natalie Bolles, and Garett plays left tackle for the Broncos. The first time he pulled into my driveway, I had a Chiefs flag flying. He still has not let that go.
We got to work with his son Kingston the way I work with every family: week after week, sound after sound, motor plan after motor plan. Garett wanted to understand the mechanics of it, so we ended up talking about childhood apraxia of speech the way he talks about football, a pattern you drill until it is automatic. It turned out to be a good way for both of us to explain what we do.
In 2025 he and I opened the Bjorem & Bolles Childhood Apraxia Education Initiative in Parker, Colorado, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit I co-founded and serve as President of, to train speech-language pathologists on childhood apraxia of speech, since most graduate programs barely touch it. The curriculum is called "I Am King," after Kingston. I have not fully converted Garett to the Chiefs. He is still working on it.
When I teach, I am not trying to hand anyone a theory. I am trying to hand them the thing that works on the kid who has been on their caseload for three years. That is the whole goal.
I live in the mountains of Colorado. I have three kids, and after twenty-six years of marriage my husband and I finally get to work together every day.

These terms govern your use of this website and the services offered through it by Jennie Bjorem, a sole proprietorship ("we", "us", or "Jennie Bjorem").
1. Who we are
Jennie Bjorem, a sole proprietorship located in Parker, Colorado. You can reach us at hello@jenniebjorem.com.
2. Services we provide
We provide two categories of service:
- Professional training and speaking. Continuing education sessions, workshops, keynotes, and district professional development on childhood apraxia of speech, delivered to organizations under a separate written agreement.
- Speech-language pathology services. In person therapy, second opinion consultations, and parent coaching, provided directly to families in Parker, Colorado.
Clinical services are provided by a licensed speech-language pathologist within the scope of that license and only in the state where that license is held.
3. This website is not clinical advice
Everything on this site is general educational information. It is not a diagnosis, a treatment plan, or clinical advice for any individual child, and reading it does not create a clinician and client relationship. If you have concerns about your child's speech, consult a licensed speech-language pathologist or your physician.
4. Do not send private health information
The contact form and ordinary email are not secure and are not HIPAA compliant channels. Please do not send medical records, diagnoses, evaluation reports, or other protected health information through them. Once you become a client, we will provide a secure method for sharing that information.
5. Scheduling and payment
Clinical services are private pay. We do not bill insurance. Fees are agreed in advance and invoiced electronically, in United States dollars, and are due on the terms stated on the invoice. Cancellations and refunds are governed by our Cancellation and Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms.
Training and speaking engagements are governed by the individual written agreement for that engagement, which controls if it conflicts with anything here.
6. No guaranteed outcomes
Speech therapy outcomes depend on many factors outside anyone's control, including the nature and severity of the condition, frequency of practice, and individual variation. We make no promise or guarantee of any particular result.
7. Our materials
Course content, handouts, slides, written materials, and the contents of this website are our intellectual property or that of our licensors. You may use materials provided in a training for your own professional practice. You may not reproduce, redistribute, resell, or teach from them without written permission.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of these terms or your use of this site is limited to the amount you paid us for the service giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
9. Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and continued use of the site after a change means you accept the updated version.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, without regard to its conflict of laws rules.

This policy explains what information this website collects, why, and what we do with it. The short version is that we collect very little and we do not sell any of it.
What we collect
When you use the contact form, we collect the information you type into it: your name, your email address, your organization if you provide one, your timeframe, and your message. That is all. There is no account to create and nothing to log into.
We collect your email address when you type it into the contact form, and we use it only to write back to you about what you asked. We do not add it to a mailing list and we do not use it for anything else.
Why we collect it
Only to reply to you and to carry on the conversation you started, whether that is about a speaking engagement or about your child.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your information
- We do not rent or trade it
- We do not add you to a mailing list because you filled out the contact form
- We do not use it for advertising
Health information
The contact form is not a secure or HIPAA compliant channel. Please do not send medical records, evaluation reports, or detailed health information through it. If you do send health information anyway, we treat it carefully, but the form itself is not built to protect it. Clinical records for active clients are kept separately, under the confidentiality rules that apply to licensed healthcare providers.
Who else sees it
Contact form submissions are delivered to our email, which is hosted by Google Workspace. Payments are processed by Zoho Payments, who handle billing information under their own privacy terms. We do not share your information with anyone else except where the law requires it.
How long we keep it
Contact inquiries are kept as long as they are useful for the conversation and then deleted. Client records are retained for the period required by Colorado law and professional licensing rules.
Your choices
Write to hello@jenniebjorem.com and ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. We will do so unless a law or licensing rule requires us to keep it.
Children
This website is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect information directly from children through it. Where a parent or guardian gives us information about their child, we handle it under this policy and the confidentiality rules referenced above.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Plain terms, stated up front, so nobody is surprised by a charge. Please read this before your first appointment.
Therapy, consults, and parent coaching
Cancel or reschedule with at least 24 hours notice and there is no charge. Let us know by email and we will find another time.
Cancellations with less than 24 hours notice, and appointments where the client does not attend, are billed at the full session rate. That time was held for your child and cannot be offered to another family on short notice.
If we have to cancel, you are not charged, and we will offer you the next available time or refund that session in full, whichever you prefer.
When we waive it
Illness, a family emergency, or genuinely dangerous weather are not billed. We are not going to charge you for keeping a sick child home. Just tell us what happened.
Prepaid sessions
Unused prepaid sessions are refundable on request, less any sessions already delivered and any late cancellations already incurred. Refunds are issued to the original payment method within 10 business days.
Payment and currency
Services are private pay. We do not bill insurance. Invoices are issued electronically in United States dollars and are due on receipt. If you need a superbill to submit to your own insurer, ask and we will provide one, though we cannot guarantee your insurer will reimburse it.
Training and speaking engagements
Cancellation terms for conferences, districts, and other organizations are set out in the written agreement for that engagement. Where that agreement conflicts with this page, the agreement controls.
Questions or a billing problem
Email hello@jenniebjorem.com before disputing a charge with your bank. Nearly everything is a misunderstanding we can sort out in one message, and we would rather fix it directly.
